Third application, approved after 7 months. Unlike friends who got approved on first try, I went through much more. Many friends gave up and went back to China, but I kept going. So I was incredibly emotional when I got it. Grateful I didn't give up. Details for reference: Female, Chinese, single, 985 bachelor's, NUS arts master's, 8th year in SG. First two applications: Top 3 global tech company, applied first time in 2nd year of work; promoted to senior, salary 4k, applied second time, rejected when COVID hit. People say big companies help, but that wasn't true for me. Started preparing to switch jobs after second rejection. Third application: Switched to IT industry, smaller company but still an MNC. Salary 5.5k at application, promoted and raised to 7k, submitted additional documents in Sep. People say additional docs mean quick approval, but I waited 4 more months. Approved Jan 2022 — best New Year's gift! Many variables in third application — COVID period, IT demand was high, plus mid-application promotion. But if you've been rejected and only had minor changes, be bold — switch jobs, switch industries, upskill. Show ICA your determination and contribution. PR will come!
